Location Codes That Hold Up Under Transfer Season

Transfer season breaks weak location lists. If “BKK”, “Bangkok HQ”, and “Khlong Toei” all mean the same floor, your mobility chart will invent false corridors.

Agree on one code per physical site and one separate flag for remote status. Treat “hybrid” as a schedule attribute, not a place. That separation keeps charts about where people are based from mixing with charts about how often they commute.

Document who owns the list. When a new satellite opens, the owner adds the code before the first hire lands. Waiting until payroll complains usually means months of cleanup.

For Thailand-based groups with regional staff, keep country and city as separate fields. Merging them into a single free-text line makes year-over-year comparisons brittle.
